About the Chartered Governance Institute New Zealand

Chartered Governance Institute New Zealand is New Zealand’s only truly chartered professional association for governance professional and organisations focused on best practice governance.  Our purpose is to support our members with their lifelong governance journey and for members and their boards to be the best they can be.

Chartered Governance Institute New Zealand was founded in 1937. We provide education networking and support for governance professionals, board directors, company secretaries, and those working in compliance and risk management. Our members come from all sectors; corporate, public and private companies and not for profit organisations.  

We are the only New Zealand provider of the globally accredited International Chartered Governance Programme providing a qualification as a governance professional and as a company secretary. We also provide a range of governance training and study options through short courses, including the Effective Director Programme which is a 3-day intensive in person programme providing board directors with t the knowledge and skills to perform their roles effectively.  


About Women on Boards

Women on Boards is a business unit of Chartered Governance Institute New Zealand and the only women's organisation in New Zealand dedicated to women on boards. Its purpose is to increase gender diversity on all boards. Women om Boards supports women directors and those aspiring to be to directors to be successful in advancing and achieving their governance goals. We provide education and training, networking, and advocacy on governance ethno-gender issues and host the national Women in Governance Awards.
