The prevalence of greenwashing has increased in recent years, as has awareness of it amongst regulators, investors and the public both in Australia and globally. Given the seriousness of the possible consequences of greenwashing it is essential that governance professionals equip themselves and their boards to tackle the issue.
Governance professionals are rightly very concerned about greenwashing – and about the damage that an accusation of greenwashing could do to their organisation. Framing greenwashing as a governance issue enables a more comprehensive understanding of the entirety of the processes and players involved.
Everyone has a part to play in climate action, including boards of directors. The aim of this paper is provide both the background and practical guidance for governance professionals to assist their organisation reach net-zero.
