Today, CGI Global, the premier global qualifying body for Chartered Secretaries and Chartered Governance Professionals, announced the appointment of Kerrie Waring to lead the global institute as Director General.

We were pleased to receive the news that His Majesty King Charles III will be the new Royal Patron of the Institute with immediate effect. This follows a recent review of Royal Patronages conducted by the Royal Household. For seven decades, CGI was proud to have the support of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who became our Patron in 1952. The Institute has held Royal Patronage since King Edward VII became the first Patron in 1902 and we are delighted that this will continue. It recognises the importance of governance and honours the important role that governance professionals play in our society.

ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute’s annual essay writing competition, the Tom Morrison Essay Prize, is now underway and running until 1 April 2021. We have a first prize of £1,000 and a second prize of £500 on offer. The theme of this year’s Prize is as follows: "Post-COVID-19, what does the concept of ‘building back better’ mean for governance professionals?"

This webinar draws on the experience of leading governance professionals across the world to explore how different countries and different organisations have addressed the problem of holding public meetings, especially general meetings, during the current pandemic. Looking further ahead, they also discussed how the evolution of technology, laws and regulations, as well as shareholders’ and stakeholders’ attitudes, can and will enable companies and other entities to move away from the traditional concept of the set-piece physical general meeting towards hybrid or virtual meetings.

Following overwhelming member support, the Privy Council gave Royal Assent on 8 February 2018 to the Institute’s revised Charter & byelaws that introduce a second professional designation - Chartered Governance Professional, to sit alongside the long established Chartered Secretary designation.

From 1 January 2019 the nine Divisions of the Institute will be offering a newly revised qualifying programme for individuals that wish to become members...

ICSA: The Governance Institute is running an essay writing competition called the Tom Morrison Essay Prize. Now in its third year, the competition launched this Monday (8 Jan) and will run until Monday 19 March 2018. It is open to ICSA students, law students and business students, recent graduates and people at the start of their governance careers (2 years max in a role).

The ICSA Graduation and Membership Ceremony took place on 26 May at Merchant Taylor’s Hall, welcoming hundreds of guests to this very special occasion.

The Institute conferred honorary Fellowship on Mervyn King in recognition of his substantial contribution across the globe to the practice of good governance through his work on the King Reports and through his work with the International Integrated Reporting Council.
